EXOSC2

Description

The EXOSC2 (exosome component 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

EXOSC2, also known as Exosome component 2, is a protein encoded by the EXOSC2 gene in humans. It is a component of the human exosome, a multi-subunit complex responsible for RNA degradation. The exosome is involved in various cellular processes, including the degradation of mRNAs containing AU-rich elements (AREs) in the 3' untranslated regions. EXOSC2 has been shown to interact with Exosome component 4 and Exosome component 7.

EXOSC2 is a non-catalytic component of the RNA exosome complex, which plays a crucial role in RNA processing and degradation. It is part of the Exo-9 complex, a 9-subunit core complex that is essential for RNA binding and presentation for degradation. EXOSC2 specifically stabilizes the hexameric ring of RNase PH-domain subunits within Exo-9 through interactions with EXOSC4 and EXOSC7.

EXOSC2 is also known as RRP4, Rrp4p, SHRF, hRrp4p, p7.
