ERAL1

Description

The ERAL1 (Era like 12S mitochondrial rRNA chaperone 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

ERAL1 is a GTPase that plays a role in the assembly of the mitochondrial ribosomal small subunit. It specifically binds the 12S mitochondrial rRNA (12S mt-rRNA) to a 33 nucleotide section at the 3' terminal stem-loop region. ERAL1 may also act as a chaperone to protect the 12S mt-rRNA on the 28S mitoribosomal subunit during ribosomal small subunit assembly.

ERAL1 is also known as CEGA, ERA, ERA-W, ERAL1A, ERAL1B, H-ERA, HERA-A, HERA-B, PRLTS6.
