DNAJB2

Description

The DNAJB2 (DnaJ heat shock protein family (Hsp40) member B2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

DnaJ homolog subfamily B member 2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the DNAJB2 gene.

DNAJB2 functions as a co-chaperone, assisting in protein folding by regulating the binding of substrates to chaperones of the HSP70 family and activating their ATPase activity. It also plays a role in the ubiquitin-dependent degradation of misfolded proteins through the proteasome. DNAJB2's involvement in these processes influences the aggregation and recovery of misfolded proteins such as HTT, MC4R, PRKN, RHO, and SOD1, impacting a wide range of biological processes. Isoform 1 of DNAJB2 is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membranes and may specifically function in the ER-associated protein degradation of misfolded proteins.

DNAJB2 is also known as CMT2T, DSMA5, HMNR5, HSJ-1, HSJ1, HSPF3.
