DARS1 : aspartyl-tRNA synthetase 1

Description

The DARS1 (aspartyl-tRNA synthetase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

The DARS1 gene provides instructions for making an enzyme called aspartyl-tRNA synthetase. This enzyme is found in all cell types and plays a crucial role in protein synthesis. During protein synthesis, amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, are linked together in a specific order to form a protein chain. Transfer RNA (tRNA) molecules transport specific amino acids to the growing protein chain. Aspartyl-tRNA synthetase is one of the aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases that attach a particular amino acid (aspartate in this case) to its corresponding tRNA. This ensures that aspartate is added at the correct position in the protein sequence. In addition to its primary role in protein synthesis, aspartyl-tRNA synthetase may have other functions that are not fully understood.

DARS1 is also known as DARS, HBSL, aspRS.
