CYP1B1 : cytochrome P450 family 1 subfamily B member 1

Description

The CYP1B1 gene, encodes for the cytochrome P450 1B1 enzyme. This enzyme plays a crucial role in metabolizing various substrates, including steroids, xenobiotics, and environmental toxins. CYP1B1 is particularly active in the liver, but its expression can also be found in other tissues such as the eye, breast, and skin. Its primary function is to detoxify harmful substances, but it can also contribute to the activation of procarcinogens. Genetic variations in CYP1B1 have been linked to an increased risk of certain cancers and other diseases.
