CSGALNACT1

Description

The CSGALNACT1 (chondroitin sulfate N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

CSGALNACT1, also known as Chondroitin beta-1,4-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 1, is an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) from UDP-GalNAc to the non-reducing end of glucuronic acid (GlcUA). This activity is essential for the initiation and elongation of chondroitin chains, which are important components of cartilage. CSGALNACT1 plays a critical role in the biosynthesis of chondroitin during cartilage formation and subsequent endochondral ossification. Additionally, it is involved in the metabolism of aggrecan, a major component of cartilage.

CSGALNACT1 is also known as CSGalNAcT-1, ChGn, ChGn-1, SDJLABA, beta4GalNAcT.
