CIBAR1

Description

The CIBAR1 (CBY1 interacting BAR domain containing 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

CIBAR1 is a protein involved in a variety of cellular processes, including ciliogenesis, hedgehog signaling, and mitochondrial function. It interacts with other proteins, such as CBY1 and FAM92B, and plays a role in the formation and function of cilia and mitochondria.

CIBAR1 is a positive regulator of ciliary hedgehog signaling. It is a probable regulator of ciliogenesis involved in limb morphogenesis. In cooperation with CBY1, CIBAR1 is involved in the recruitment and fusion of endosomal vesicles at distal appendages during early stages of ciliogenesis. CIBAR1 plays an important role in mitochondrial function and is essential for maintaining mitochondrial morphology and inner membrane ultrastructure. In vitro, CIBAR1 can generate membrane curvature through preferential interaction with negatively charged phospholipids such as phosphatidylinositol 4,5- bisphosphate and cardiolipin and hence orchestrate cristae shape.

CIBAR1 is also known as BARMR1, FAM92A, FAM92A1, PAPA9.
