CDC6 : cell division cycle 6

Description

The CDC6 (cell division cycle 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

The CDC6 gene provides instructions for making a protein that is critical for copying a cell's DNA before it divides (DNA replication). This protein, called CDC6, is part of the pre-replication complex, which attaches to specific DNA regions called origins of replication, where DNA copying begins. When the complex is bound to the origin, replication can start. This controlled process, called replication licensing, ensures DNA is replicated only once per cell division, which is essential for cell growth and division.

CDC6 is also known as CDC18L, HsCDC18, HsCDC6, MGORS5.
