CASP14

Description

CASP14, also known as caspase-14, is a cysteine protease that plays a crucial role in the regulation of apoptosis and inflammation. It is primarily expressed in the skin and other epithelial tissues, where it acts as a critical mediator of the innate immune response. CASP14 is activated by various stimuli, including bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and pro-inflammatory cytokines, leading to the cleavage of various target proteins and the induction of cell death.

CASP14 is unique among caspases because it lacks the typical caspase recruitment domain (CARD) and instead contains a unique N-terminal domain that mediates its activation.
