BMPER

Description

The BMPER gene (Bone Morphogenetic Protein Encoding Region) plays a crucial role in regulating bone and muscle development. It encodes a protein that acts as a negative regulator of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling. BMPs are a family of growth factors that are essential for the formation of bones, cartilage, and muscles. BMPER inhibits BMP signaling by binding to BMP receptors, preventing them from activating downstream signaling pathways. This inhibition is essential for proper tissue development and maintaining homeostasis.

Associated Diseases

Did you know?

Mutations in the BMPER gene are responsible for a rare genetic disorder called Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP), which causes progressive bone formation in muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
