BMP1

Description

BMP1, or Bone Morphogenetic Protein 1, is a zinc metalloproteinase that plays a crucial role in various biological processes, particularly in skeletal development. As a member of the astacin family of proteases, BMP1 cleaves a diverse array of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, including procollagens, latent transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) binding proteins, and other growth factors. This proteolytic activity regulates ECM assembly, tissue morphogenesis, and cell signaling pathways. BMP1‘s function extends beyond bone formation, encompassing a wide range of developmental processes and cellular functions, highlighting its multifaceted nature.
