Description
The ARSK (arylsulfatase family member K) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.
ARSK is an enzyme that breaks down certain molecules, including pseudosubstrates like p-nitrocatechol sulfate and p-nitrophenyl sulfate. It specifically targets the 2-sulfate groups of 2-O-sulfo-D-glucuronate residues found in chondroitin sulfate, heparin, and heparitin sulfate. Notably, it selectively acts on 2-sulfoglucuronate, showing no activity against 2-sulfoiduronate.
