ARSB : arylsulfatase B
Description
The ARSB (arylsulfatase B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.
The ARSB gene provides instructions for producing an enzyme called arylsulfatase B, which is essential for breaking down large sugar molecules known as glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). Specifically, arylsulfatase B removes a chemical group called a sulfate from two GAGs: dermatan sulfate and chondroitin sulfate. This enzyme resides within lysosomes, compartments inside cells that digest and recycle various molecules.
ARSB is also known as ASB, G4S, MPS6.
