ALX3 : ALX homeobox 3
Description
The ALX3 (ALX homeobox 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
The ALX3 gene gives instructions for making a protein that's part of the homeobox protein family. These proteins guide the formation of body parts during early embryonic development. The ALX3 protein is crucial for normal head and face development, especially the nose, which starts forming around the fourth week of development. It's a transcription factor, meaning it attaches to DNA and controls the activity of specific genes. The protein regulates the activity of genes that control cell growth and division (proliferation) and movement (migration), making sure cells grow and stop growing at the right times and are positioned correctly during development.
ALX3 is also known as FND, FND1.
