ALOXE3 : arachidonate lipoxygenase 3
Description
The ALOXE3 gene, encodes for the enzyme arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase (ALOXE3). This enzyme plays a crucial role in the metabolism of arachidonic acid, a fatty acid essential for various physiological processes. ALOXE3 converts arachidonic acid into 12(S)-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (12-HETE), a bioactive lipid mediator involved in inflammation, cell proliferation, and vascular function. Variations in the ALOXE3 gene have been linked to several diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and inflammatory disorders.
Associated Diseases
- Cancer (e.g., colorectal, breast, prostate)
- Cardiovascular disease (e.g., atherosclerosis, hypertension)
- Inflammatory disorders (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease)
- Neurological disorders (e.g., Alzheimer‘s disease)
