Description
The AIMP2 (aminoacyl tRNA synthetase complex interacting multifunctional protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.
AIMP2 is a protein that is part of the aminoacyl-tRNA synthase complex (MSC), a complex of enzymes that attach amino acids to tRNA molecules. AIMP2 is required for the assembly and stability of the MSC, and it also plays a role in the regulation of other proteins involved in cell growth and differentiation.
AIMP2 plays a crucial role in the assembly and stability of the aminoacyl-tRNA synthase complex. It also regulates the levels of key proteins involved in cell growth and differentiation, including MYC and p53. AIMP2 promotes the degradation of FUBP1, a MYC activator, leading to decreased MYC activity and promoting alveolar type II cell differentiation. It also protects p53 from degradation by MDM2, contributing to the stability of this tumor suppressor protein. Additionally, AIMP2 functions as a proapoptotic factor, potentially contributing to cell death under specific conditions.
