ADAT3

ADAT3: A Gene of Growing Significance

Description

ADAT3, also known as adenosine deaminase acting on tRNA, is a gene located on chromosome 19 in humans. It encodes an enzyme, tRNA-specific adenosine deaminase (ADAT3), responsible for modifying adenosine residues in certain transfer RNA (tRNA) molecules.

Associated Diseases

Mutations in the ADAT3 gene have been linked to a rare genetic disorder known as myelodysplastic syndrome with sideroblastic anemia. This condition is characterized by abnormal red blood cell production and low iron levels in the body.
